Paper Punching TUTORIAL

Do you have designer paper left over from projects and don’t know what to do with all those odd pieces? I found a solution!! I pull out an older card from a few years ago to remake it using newer papers. The back side of one of the sheets of designer paper from the tropical party paper has palm trees on one side and nice colored stripes on the other. My older card had a scalloped border of STRIPES!! Bingo!!…use up the stripes side for the new scallop border!  I also had 2 opened partially used packs of a retired color Green Galor that had not sold in my retired stamp sale. So I decided to use it since I have enough for the card base and the trees. Here are some pics of the steps to make these cute trees.I started with the following sample

orig1

Here are some of the cards we’re going to end up with when I get done all the punching, cutting and glittering.

TREE23

This shows you the pieces ….including the little strips of stripes. Here some of all the pieces I started with….then started cutting apart and assembling.

TREE2 TREE3 One side shows the palm trees on the back of the paper, the other is the stripes side I used, and all the white ovals and green scallops I punched out for the trees.

It takes 1 scallop punch out per tree.

TREE5 Here I have sponged the edge of each scallop in the white craft ink.  Next I will show you how to cut them to get the branches of the tree.. TIP: If you dip the sponged cardstock into dazzling diamonds before the craft ink dries, it acts like GLUE to the DD glitter!

TREE7 Here’s the steps to cutting the scallop. Cut one in 1/2, then off each half, cut 2 & 5 scallops, and 3 & 4 scallops as shown in the picture.

TREE20 You need to punch out a large wide oval for each tree, plus a strip of brown for each “tree trunk”. I just cut a 1/4-3/8” strip, then cut pieces off for the trunk base.

Start with the 5 scallops piece and glue it to the bottom of the white oval.

TREE8 I put the tree trunk on at this time too, but just showing you how to layer the scallops at this time.

Next you add the 4 scallops

TREE10 Then you add the 3 scallops

TREE11 Then you add the 2 scallops

TREE12 Your tree should look something like this.

If you added the trunk too (I did), it would look like this

TREE13 Now you can glue them onto the front of your card…I put mine across the top of the tempting turquoise piece….3 across. Start with the outside trees, then center the middle one.

Here are some finished cards. You see I used a couple different colors of green for the base and the trees. I really like the light colored trees, so I will use up all my Tropical party paper scraps with the lighter green galore cardstock. These would make nice cards for your Church card ministry if you have one. But if you’re going to make something like this for Cards for Troops…LEAVE OFF the GLITTER!! No glitter going overseas!! Other than that, they’re really a simple card to make. I added a red punched heart or a red flower to the end of the saying depending on what saying was stamped.

Thanks for the tutorial. Those trees are absolutely adorable. They would make great tags as well.
