Cards for Troops…

How many of you have friends, neighbors, loved ones, or know of someone who has someone overseas in the Military?? I know some people overseas, so I’m sure many of you do also.  I know how lonesome it gets over seas, and how hard it is to get things, especially hand made items!!

I am starting a group to make cards to send to the troops.  If you are in the Albuquerque area, you are welcome to join our group and help make cards to send to the Blue Star Mothers who distribute all our hand made cards to the troops.  I have attached a REGISTRATION FORM HERE for anyone who would like to sign up and come. We will have a card making session once a month on the 3rd Thursday beginning at 1:00PM.   This is open to anyone who would like to come. You must pre-register so we can get the supplies for the cards.  As supplies are exhausted, we will order more in a group order.

If you would like to do something nice for our troops, and have some fun with other stampers at the same time, please print off the registration form and mail it to me with the required payment.   I have room for 8-10 people at a time to stamp.  The stamp sessions will run from 1:00PM to ???PM. You can leave when you get tired, or run out of materials!!

Thank you for visiting my blog.

SKETCH FRENZY FRIDAY!

Jun 18th, 2010 Posted in Challenges, NEW PRODUCTS, SKETCHES | 13 comments »

Well, it’s another week gone by, and my stamp table is all covered up again!!! Can you believe that?  I actually got to use some of the NEW things coming your way this July!! My take on the sketch this week depicts one of my old time favorite things to do…. SEWING.. When I was growing up…. my Mom taught me and my sister how to sew, using old bedspreads cut into squares, then we sewed zig zags, triangles, anything we could…. stitching the squares together to make pot holders!!  Well, I didn’t make a pot holder, but I did cut some triangles and made some “ruffles” and put the sewing machine right in the middle.

Here’s the sketch:

Here’s my version using this sketch:

Sewing and paper piecing

close up :

see the button and thread!

I used the new BLACK & WHITE Newsprint paper coming soon to a SU demo near you!! Don’t you love it!? It’s reversible!!  I love using Black, white, and RED together.

I made the “ruffle” with the eyelet border punch then ran it through the crimper, then gathered it up a bit more and stuck it down with that wonderful TOMBOW multipurpose glue. That stuff sure sticks things done GOOD!! The button is from the Latte button set, retiring this month, and threaded with our linen thread.  I had to punch some hole in the piece….just didn’t look right without them!  Happy “paper sewing” !!

Stamp set: Puns from the Past;  Cardstock: Real red, vanilla, basic black; Newsprint DSP, Linen thread, Latte buttons, crop-o-dile, eyelet border punch, sponging.

Sketch Frenzy Friday…. June 11th.. Happy Birthday USA!

Since it’s getting close to the 4th of July, I wanted to do something with stars, using the negative punch out I saw it on a post from Michelle Singer in the LNS group earlier this week.  She used the small star punch (retiring), then punched out the star using the scallop square.. what a neat idea!!  But I had to do RED/WHITE/BLUE  version for our Great Nation’s Birthday coming up. Hope you like it!!

Here’s Michele’s green version:

Card by Michele Schmidt

Here’s the sketch: Here’s my take on it: My stripes are strips of Real red cardstock glued onto the white background. The large star is our larger star punch which is NOT retiring.

Saying from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Happy Birthday USA!

Here’s a close up of the star… and yes, I had to add some extra bling and used the vanilla smooch spray just across the top of the card.

I have used the small star punch which is retiring….so this is the last month you can purchase it. The chunky glitter is staying.. I love this chunky glitter, it’s much easier to clean up!!

You can make a card using our sketch and add your link at the bottom of this post. Come on… try this cool sketch!!
