*********************TODAY’S POST ***********************

I was supposed to make this card and post it last week…but with my classes, and other obligations, I just couldn’t get it photographed and posted. So here it is a little late.  Colors we had to use were So Saffron (a light yellow),  More Mustard (a warm mustard color), and Riding Hood Red ( a warm red tone). I chose to use flowers of several kinds, plus the lacy border punch.

Here’s a few more close ups.

Supplies: Simply Soft Hostess  & Circle Circus ss; Cardstock: More mustard, ridinghood red, whisper white, Soft Suede; Inks: So Saffron, More Mustard, Ridinghood Red;

Accessories: DSP, Paper daisies, Triple Blossom punch, Boho Blossom Punch, Lacy border punch, sponges, Polka dot mustard ribbon, round fired rhinestones, Vanilla shimmer smooch spray ,  EKSuccess border punch. (a new one someone loaned me to try out:)

Technique: Used some distressing and sponging, spritzing.. to jazz it up a bit. Triple bow using Magic bow maker from Lee Conrey.

Be sure to leave a comment! This card is for sale in my ETSY shop if you’d like to have like it. I also do custom colors if you want a different color combo.

Recycled Packing Flowers

SEE info on MYSTERY KIT at end of POST!!

I teach some classes on how to use up cards you may get in the mail from charities and other companies who always insist on sending what I call MASS made cards. They’re plain.. some have some designs, some not so much. But you can take a basic card of any kind and embellish it.  I saw where one gal had taken our SU brown  packing paper and made little gift bags with it.. I decided to try to make some paper flowers with the brown paper to see how their textured worked  with all the layers.

I tried stamping first and cutting next, and cutting first and stamping next. Either way works, but if you’re going to make a lot of flowers… the STAMPING the design FIRST works much more efficiently.  I use the BIGSHOT FUN FLOWERS die and some of the other flower dies to cut out the different layers. Then I layered them up and put one of the glimmer brads in the middle. The flower with the turquoise brad is one of the IN-COLOR BRADS.

Then I selected one of my generic cards and started playing with colors of the lace border punch, and ribbons.

This card had a black and cream design, so I used the black stamped flower for it.

I added the lacy border from Crumb Cake paper and the sentiment from WORD PLAY with a crumb cake (sponged) scallop oval punch mat. The ribbon is some of our 3/8″ taffeta ribbon, tied in a simple knot and dovetail cut.

Here’s my “RED” version: I did cut a few layers from regular cardstock to add some more color.

Here’s a blue version: This one needed the Bermuda Bay retired polka dot ribbon for the extra color.

So next time you get some generic cards, or want to use up some of those designer paper scraps (just cover the front of a plain card), or receive some “freebie cards” in the mail.. DECORATE them! If you don’t have any of the “brown packing paper” that comes in our SU BOXES…. HOLD a workshop and you’ll get it as a bonus in your order!!

I have some other versions of “recycling cards” which I will post later on.. I’ve taken a plain card and stamped and embellished. My friends asked how I made it.. so I will share with you at a later time.

More Jolliest trees

Oct 25th, 2011 Posted in ALBUQUERQUE RUBBER STAMPING, Card Classes, Challenges, Christmas, Christmas Cards & Pages, Creative-Sketches, Holiday Classes, Holidays, Jolliest Time of the Year, STAMP SETS | one comment »

I had borrowed a friend’s stamp to make some Christmas cards. Here are some more of those cute little easy cards.. using up some of my retired organdy ribbons…. heated to scrunch them up some, then scrunched up more when applied to the card.

I also used some of the smooch spray over the front of the card to go with the yellow. Tree is embellished with dazzling details and some crystal effects.

Here is another color version, using paper and ribbon instead of just ribbon. If you want to make some quick cards.. here’s the answer!! Stamp the image, color it with a few markers, add some paper and ribbon trim, spritz it and let it dry!!
